Dawn Bell Ringing from Heaven’s Border

  • The Heaven’s Border Temple was built by Yuesong, a monk living in the late Ming and early Qing dynasty. The temple worships the Goddess of Mercy and the Immortal Elder. A couplet in the main hall reads: “Heaven asks the prayers, the Immortal Elder works miracle.” In the past, monks here hit the bell 108 times at dawn in an attempt to resolve “the dream of 108 worries”. As the temple stands on a high ground, the sound of the bell could be heard far away. “Dawn Bell Ringing from Heaven’s Border” is among Xiamen’s new top 20 sights.
